Job Description
Mid-Level SQL Database engineer responsible for the support of the SQL server shore and ship databases.
1. Perform routine administrative activities such as:
- Manage service request management process
- Manage incident management process
- Resolve incidents and service requests as per the agreed SLAs and timelines
- Assist with Hyper care coverage and troubleshooting
- Preventative monitoring to proactively correct issues to avoid outages
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve availability of the Database events like DB availability, Instance availability and the space availability of disk drives and file systems.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve any issues with transaction logs and backup logs
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve failed jobs
- Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve database related activities, respond to calls from the Application support and development teams.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve backups, recovery errors, respond to the request regarding the restoration of the DB
- Install and configure monitoring tool metrics, thresholds. Update and modify as needed
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve metric alerts, performance-related issues like high CPU utilization, application performance, high Memory utilization, Application tuning, and Query tuning
- Implement and maintain database security, including user provisioning and access control
- Perform code migration, request for script execution, database refresh, database change management, and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle
- Perform periodic health check of systems and optimize when needed- Assist with patch management and version control of database system software and related products- Create and maintain documents, knowledge
-base and standards.
2. Collaborate with other teams to resolve the issue - Work as part of a team and provide 7x24 support when required

Required skills/competencies:
- Hands-on experience MSSQL Server (v2000-2016) standard and enterprise editions
- Hands-on and good understanding of the Windows operating system
- Good working knowledge, understanding, and experience in all phases of database administration, including installation, configuration, physical and logical database design security, troubleshooting, and managing backup and recovery plans.
- A good working knowledge of structured query language specifically: T-SQL and SQL- A good understanding with High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies for MSSQL databases- A good understanding with programming and scripting languages such as SQL, Powershell- A basic understanding with MSSQL replication; data movement, and ETL tools like DTS/SSIS- A good working knowledge of Confluence, Slack, JIRA- A good working knowledge with monitoring and management tools like SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Profiler, APEXSQL- A good knowledge of security management and database integrity- Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines- Strong interpersonal and communications skills. - Good technical documentation and writing skills- Excellent presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision. - Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills- Proven ability to collaborate with technical peers
